Rafael Fernández Sánchez

Rafael Fernández holds a degree and PhD in Economics from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), as well as a degree in Political Science from the UNED. He is a Professor in the Faculty in the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies at the UCM, where he teaches undergraduate and Master's degree courses. He is currently Vice-Dean for Research and Doctoral Studies at this Faculty.
He has three research projects recognised by the CNEAI and about thirty published articles, 17 of which are in the JCR index, mostly Q1 and Q2. His current lines of research focus on the study of sectoral change and industrial policies in the economic growth of European economies, while he is also a specialist in energy economics and energy transition. He is currently part of the team led by Isabel Álvarez in the framework of the H2020-MSCA-RISE-2017 (GVC2UP4IR) project, funded by the European Commission (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions).
For ten years he has been the director of the Grupo de Investigación Economía Política Mundial (World Political Economy Research Group, EPM in Spanish), a researcher at the Complutense Institute for International Studies (ICEI in Spanish) and director of five doctoral theses. He has three five-year teaching periods and has been Coordinator of the Master's Degree in International Economics and Development at the UCM, Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degrees in Economics and Double Degree in Economics and Mathematics at the Faculty of Economics, and Academic Secretary of the Applied Economics I Department.
