Diego Villafáñez Sagardoy

Head of the Support Unit for the Director General of Economic and Commercial Intelligence

Diego Villafáñez Sagardoy is currently Head of the Support Unit of the Director General of Economic and Commercial Intelligence of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise. He is a career civil servant in the Corps of Commercial Technicians and State Economists. He holds a degree in Law and Business Administration and Management from the University of Valladolid. He holds a Master's degree in European Economics from the College of Europe (Bruges).

He has also served as an advisor to the Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise on financial and EU-related issues. Previously, Diego was coordinator of digital finance at the General Secretariat of the Treasury and International Finance. There he dealt with issues related to monetary policy analysis, money markets, the banking sector, innovation and the regulation of means of payment. He participated in national and international working groups on these issues (FSB, EU Council, European Commission). Prior to joining the civil service, Diego worked as an adjunct professor at the College of Europe in Bruges (Belgium), where he was the coordinator of the Master in Economic Analysis of European Law.
